How to screen hundreds of pitch decks against your fund’s mandate

Write the mandate down as criteria a deal can meet or miss (stage, sector, cheque size, geography, business model, return target and exclusions), then read every deck against them before anyone reads for quality. Keep fit and strength as two separate numbers, treat exclusions as gates, and rank the batch by fit first.

Seven steps to a ranked pipeline

The first five get a batch from an inbox to a ranked table. The last two keep the mandate honest over time.

  1. Write the mandate as criteria

A thesis in a paragraph cannot be checked against a deck. A list of criteria can, one by one.

In Aventro: Aventro AI drafts your Fund DNA from what your fund publishes, each line footnoted to where it was read, and a person confirms it.1

  2. Bring every deck into one pipeline

Email, intros, demo days. The same deck sent twice should land on the same company.

In Aventro: Decks arrive at the fund’s own email address, by upload or shared by the founder, and the same deck sent twice attaches to the card already there.2

  3. Score fit and strength separately

A strong company outside your mandate is still outside it, and a weak one inside it is still weak.

In Aventro: Fund Fit says how well a deal fits your Fund DNA; the Aventro score says how strong the company is. Each Fund Fit criterion is shown met or missed.3

  4. Treat exclusions as gates

A sector you never back should stop a deal outright, whatever else it scores.

In Aventro: A deal that matches an exclusion is flagged with the rule it breaches, and approving a deal outside the mandate is its own permission.1

  5. Rank the batch by fit, then strength

The top of the list should be the companies you would actually back.

In Aventro: Upload up to forty decks at a time. The batch comes back ranked by Fund Fit, with your Fund Score breaking ties and the Aventro score beside both.4

  6. Version the mandate

Mandates change between funds and between years. A score should say which version it was judged on.

In Aventro: Every Fund Fit names the Fund DNA version it used, so changing the Fund DNA never rewrites an old score.1

  7. Invite the companies worth a closer look

The deck got them through screening. The evidence decides the rest.

In Aventro: Invite founders in bulk. A founder who accepts sees what could not be verified from the deck alone and adds the evidence that closes the gaps.4

Questions

How many decks can Aventro screen at once?

Up to forty in one drop, as PDF or PowerPoint, back as one ranked table. An admin can also have every deck emailed to the fund’s inbound address screened as it arrives, up to a daily cap.

Does the founder know we are screening their deck?

A cohort can be ranked before any founder knows you are looking: each deck is screened from the deck itself and the public registers.

What goes into a fund’s mandate?

In Aventro’s Fund DNA: the stages, sectors, cheque size, geography and business models you back, the ones you never do, the return a deal has to promise, and how much each part of a company counts when it is scored.

Does Aventro make the investment decision?

No. Aventro screens, checks and drafts. A person on your team records the decision, with their own reasons, and Aventro does not give investment advice.
