Verification

The independent sources Aventro checks every founder claim against, and how much each one’s word is worth.

How each check runs

DirectQueried straight from the official sourceConsultedRead through public sources, because it publishes no APIBy sectorOnly when the declared sector calls for it

Company

Corporate existence, status and pedigree

Israeli Registrar of Companies

Israeli registration claims

Direct

The official Israeli company register (רשם החברות), published as open government data. Confirms the company number, incorporation date, entity type, whether the registrar still lists it as active, and whether it is flagged as in breach of its filing obligations.

UK Companies House

UK registration claims

Direct

The official UK register: company number, incorporation date, company type and whether the register still lists it as active. Matched on the registered company name, so a dissolved or similarly named entity is not mistaken for the company.

SEC EDGAR (filer registration)

US registration claims

Direct

Confirms a US company exists as a registered SEC filer, matched exactly on the legal entity name. Covers venture-backed private companies too, since a US startup that raises from institutions files a Form D. EDGAR also lists investment vehicles named after the companies they back, so a near-match is never reported as the company.

Brønnøysund Register Centre

Norwegian registration claims

Direct

The official Norwegian entity register. Confirms the organisation number, registered name, legal form, registration date, and whether the register records bankruptcy or liquidation.

Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH)

Finnish registration claims

Direct

The official Finnish business information system. Confirms the business ID, registered name, company form and registration status.

Y Combinator

Accelerator claims

Direct

Batch participation for companies that claim a YC pedigree.

EU Business Registers (BRIS)

EU cross-border company existence

Consulted

The EU’s interconnection of national business registers, reached through the e-Justice portal. Used to locate which national register holds a company so the official record can be checked directly.

China National Enterprise Credit (GSXT)

Chinese registration claims

Consulted

China’s official enterprise credit information system, consulted through public sources.

Gulf financial regulators

Gulf entity & licence claims

Consulted

The ADGM public registry, the DFSA public register of firms authorised in the DIFC, and the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, consulted where a company claims a Gulf entity or a regulated financial-services licence.

Wikipedia & Wikidata

Company background

Consulted

Public company and founder background where notable coverage exists.

Regulators & standards bodies

Sector rules and approvals

By sector

The bodies that actually govern a sector are consulted for that sector: FDA, EMA and ClinicalTrials.gov for health and bio; FAA, FCC and ITU for space; BIS and DDTC for export-controlled and dual-use technology; FCA, the Federal Reserve and the CFPB for financial services.

Identity

Legal identity, ownership and digital footprint

GLEIF (Global LEI Index)

Legal identity & corporate parents

Direct

The global register of Legal Entity Identifiers. Confirms the registered legal name, the issuing register and its company number, whether the LEI is still active, and any recorded direct or ultimate parent, which is the one free way to see the group a company actually sits in.

Domain & WHOIS

Digital identity

Direct

Website ownership, registration and the age of the digital presence.

Web archive

History & consistency

Consulted

Historical snapshots that show how long a site and its claims have been live.

Team

Who the founders and team actually are

GitHub

Technical claims

Direct

Repositories, contributions and project history behind technical founders.

Semantic Scholar

Research claims

Direct

Academic publications and citations for research-backed founders.

LinkedIn (verified profile)

Founder identity

Direct

Profile confirmation where a founder connects their LinkedIn account directly.

LinkedIn

Founder & team claims

Consulted

Employment history, roles and tenure, matched against the team slide.

IP

Patents behind the moat

EPO / Espacenet

International, European, US and Asian patents

Direct

The European Patent Office’s worldwide database. Each claimed number is looked up individually against the issuing authority’s record, so a patent that exists but is filed by a different applicant is reported as such rather than passing as verified. Covers international PCT filings and the European, US, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Canadian, Israeli and regional African and Eurasian registers.

USPTO

US patents

Direct

US patent and trademark filings from the USPTO Open Data Portal, matched to the claimed IP portfolio.

WIPO (PATENTSCOPE)

International PCT filings

Consulted

The World Intellectual Property Organization’s international patent system. Every international (WO/PCT) application a company claims is confirmed directly — through the EPO worldwide database, which carries the WIPO international register in full — so a PCT claim is verified against the official record either way.

Regional IP organisations

Regional patent coverage

Consulted

ARIPO, OAPI and the Eurasian Patent Organization, which grant patents covering groups of member states.

National IP office portals

National patent legal status

Consulted

J-PlatPat, KIPRIS, TIPO, InPASS, IPOS and the Hong Kong IPD, consulted for the final legal status of a national filing.

Google Patents

Cross-jurisdiction patents

Consulted

Patent families and citations across jurisdictions, cross-checked on the public web.

Financials

Filings and funding history

SEC EDGAR (filings)

Regulatory filings

Direct

Corporate filings and disclosures from the SEC public record.

Funding search

Funding history via Crunchbase, PitchBook, press

Consulted

Prior rounds and investors gathered from live web coverage (Crunchbase, PitchBook and the financial press) at analysis time, used to corroborate a declared raise.

OpenDART (Korean Financial Supervisory Service)

Korean corporate disclosures

Consulted

Korea’s statutory disclosure system, the local equivalent of SEC EDGAR, consulted where a company claims a Korean listing or filing history.

AngelList / Wellfound

Startup profile & raises

Consulted

Company profile, team and funding signals from the public listing.

Dealroom

Startup & funding data

Consulted

Rounds, valuations and investor data from Dealroom’s public company profiles.

Traction

Public signals of real-world adoption

USAspending.gov

US federal awards

By sector

Federal contracts, grants and SBIR/STTR awards on the public record, for hard-tech sectors.

NASA TechPort

NASA technology projects

By sector

NASA’s register of the technology projects it funds, including recorded technology readiness levels. Matched on the participating-organisation record, not on a keyword, so an unrelated project cannot be read as heritage.

ClinicalTrials.gov

Registered clinical trials

By sector

The NIH registry of clinical studies. A claimed trial phase either has an NCT number, a registered phase and a named lead sponsor, or it does not. Matched on the sponsor record rather than a keyword, because the registry search also returns trials a company merely collaborates on.

openFDA

FDA device clearances

By sector

FDA 510(k) clearances filed under the company name, with the device and decision date.

Product Hunt

Launch traction

Consulted

Launch reception and community response for consumer and developer products.

App Store & Google Play

App adoption

Consulted

Public ratings, reviews and release cadence for mobile products.

Trustpilot & G2

Customer sentiment

Consulted

Public reviews and ratings that corroborate customer and revenue claims.

News & market

Market context

Consulted

Recent coverage, competitor moves and market activity around the company.

Competitor intelligence

Market positioning

Consulted

The competitive landscape and where the company sits in it, mapped from live web sources.

Sector trade press

Who the real players are

By sector

Competitor and market research is pinned to the publications that actually cover the sector — SpaceNews and Payload for space, Endpoints and MedTech Dive for bio, SemiAnalysis and EE Times for semiconductors — rather than the general technology press.

Market analysts & indices

Market size signals

By sector

Analyst houses and investor indices such as Space Foundation, BryceTech, Space Capital, Novaspace, the OECD and the World Economic Forum. Treated as signals to corroborate, never as the sole basis for a market size, because several of them are invested in the markets they report on.

Public tenders

Public-sector demand

By sector

SAM.gov, TED Europe and the EU Funding & Tenders portal, where the public demand a hard-tech company usually depends on is actually announced.

Risk

Where the deal sits against startups that did not make it

startups.rip

Failure correlation

Consulted

A catalog of shut-down startups and their post-mortems, correlated against the deal by the RIP module.

Failory

Shutdown post-mortems

Consulted

Startup failure stories and causes of death, matched against the deal being analyzed.

CB Insights post-mortems

Failure patterns

Consulted

The public startup-failure post-mortem list, used as a risk benchmark (not their paywalled data).

How we weigh what a source says

Every fact we extract carries the label of the source it came from, and the labels are ranked. A lower-ranked source can never overturn a higher-ranked one. A commercial database or a news article can support an official record, point us at one, or disagree with it in a way worth showing you. It cannot replace it. That ordering is what stops a confident-sounding claim from becoming a verified one.

  1. 1

    The official register14 sources

Confirmed against the body that keeps the record: a national registrar, an IP office, a regulator.

  2. 2

An official body republishing another register3 sources

Authoritative for whether something exists, one step removed from the office that issued it.

  3. 3

    A commercial data provider1 source

Useful for finding things and for corroboration. Never enough on its own.

  4. 4

    The open web26 sources

News, profiles and public pages. A signal worth chasing, not proof.

Where two sources of equal rank disagree, we show both rather than pick one, because that disagreement is itself a finding. In reports and exports these ranks are stamped on every fact as OFFICIAL_VERIFIED, OFFICIAL_AGGREGATED, COMMERCIAL_AGGREGATED, UNVERIFIED_WEB and SOURCE_SPECIFIC, the last covering checks whose weight depends on what a founder connected rather than on the source alone.

Coverage by region

Coverage is prioritized, not global. These are the jurisdictions we reach today, generated from the checks themselves. Patent coverage is the widest: a claimed patent number is confirmed against 17 authorities, including the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian and Israeli registers and the African and Eurasian regional offices.

Coverage by sector

243 sources across 23sectors. A deal declares its sector at intake, and only that sector’s sources are consulted — we do not claim to have checked a registry that has nothing to do with the company. Trade press answers who the competitors are; regulators and registries are where a claim stops being a press release. Analyst and investor sources inform market context only, never a market size on their own.

Other

What we keep with every fact

The source it came from, its link, the moment it was retrieved, and the date that source was last confirmed to answer. A check that could not run is recorded as unchecked and never as a negative finding, so an absent record and a failed lookup never read the same way.

Paid and restricted sources

Sources with subscription, restricted or commercially sensitive terms are not ingested until their licensing has been reviewed. Where an official register publishes no machine interface at all, we say so and consult it as a lead for review rather than presenting it as an automated check.

Every check lands in the report with a citation

See how source results sit next to the claims they verify.
